Spring Essentials

As you probably read here, I really like spring. But for all its sunshine and jasminey scents, Spring is also the perfect excuse to invest in some new wardrobe pieces, to welcome back our friends colour and pattern, and maybe even try new things (like hats).  So here are my suggestions on some springtime essentials.

SPRING ESSENTIALS 1Spring ‘aint Spring without frolicking around in a floral silk satin chiffon dress. Preferably one would be wearing kick ass sandals, and a cross-body bag to keep the hands free for fruity cocktails.

Spring is also the time one says goodbye to tights ( I wear them ALL winter pretty much). What better way to say good riddance to winter than getting the pins out. And what better way to get the pins out than short shorts. These have an elastic waist so they are good for BBQ’s too! Throw in a colourful top and some fun accessories, then add a nice sandal to dress it up a smidge.

SPRING ESSENTIALS 3But who am I kidding? I live in Melbourne so chances are it’s not always going to be  a glorious 27 degree day. Because of this transeasonal pieces always help. A pair of loose pants, a nice lightweight printed scarf, and cream booties for when you need booties but want to leave the blackness of winter behind.

SPRING ESSENTIALS 5Since spring is the beginning of the “impromptu social outing” season, it always pays to have a lightweight jumper in ones bag, The fact that the sun is out will trick people into believing it is Summer, but come 7pm, there will be a chill in the air and  a girl can end up stealing some poor mans jacket right off his back (or worst has to borrow her best friends favourite Year 7 hoodie). Also a good quality overnight bag is a great investment for weekends away. And just because I want to, I’m going to start trying out hats more!

Trend Spotting – Black and White

TREND SPOTTING BLACK AND WHITEBlack & White is always around in some form or another. It never really goes “out of fashion”, so I really questioned posting this Trend Spotting board at first.  The reality is that Black & White is everywhere at the moment. Not only as a selection of separate black and white items, but evident in patterns, stripes, colour blocks, trims and accesories. Even interiors. Can’t go wrong.

The First Day of Spring

Ahhhhh… Spring is in the air. Time to bring out the sandals!

I absolutely love spring, the smell of jasmines, the sunshine, and the fact that it is still light out when I get home from work. Spring just makes me smile!  This season always promises such great things to come.

LiLT has been in a bit of hibernation over the past 3 wintery weeks, but I have some great content planned for the blog in the next few months, so stay tuned. In the meanwhile I hope you all have a fantastic start to spring! xo Luciana

I’ve been meaning to go to the Dior & Yamamoto “The New Look” exhibition at NGV for weeks. However, like always, life gets in the way and I end up promising that I will definitely, definitely go “next week”. I had my last chance to make said promise last week as the exhibition will be closing this Sunday 28th July.

Here’s NGV’s write-up on the exhibition. I’m definitely, definitely going this weekend.

“Dior and Yamamoto: The New Look is a small exhibition that considers two pivotal moments in the history of fashion through designers Christian Dior and Yohji Yamamoto.

In the history of fashion, there have been several moments that have entirely changed the way people dress. In 1947, Dior’s debut spring collection completely transformed fashion from the angular silhouette of the 1940s into softer feminine hourglass shapes with wasp-waists and billowing skirts almost overnight. Carmel Snow at Harper’s Bazaar dubbed it the ‘New Look’. In 1981, Yohji Yamamoto’s debut Paris collection also changed the course of fashion history—shaking up the concept of Western-style clothing with a rag-like collection and throwing the fashion world into controversy. His collections created a new vocabulary in fashion which has altered its course. Yamamoto did not introduce this look alone, but his work holds particular resonance with the work of Dior. This exhibition draws out some of those connections through selected garments, photographs and prints.”

Topshop – Personal Shopping

This is precisely why it has taken me such an incredibly long time to write this post, but earlier this month I set off to Topshop with Bec from Frocks and Crumpets and our friend Jayne, for an afternoon of Personal Shopping.

For those of you who may not have heard about it before… Topshop/Topman offer an amazing (and complimentary) Personal Shopping service for both men and women.

After making an appointment, we were sent a quick and simple email questionnaire asking for details, such as our likes, dislikes, style icons, sizes etc, which gave the Topshop peeps some insight on what we might be looking for.

On arrival we were met with our own individual rails of clothing to try on, specifically picked to our styles, needs, likes and dislikes etc.  Our looks were pulled by the gorgeous, lovely and stylish Yianni, (who is a close friend of mine, and pretty much one of the few men I trust enough to choose clothes for me).  Whilst we sipped on cider and ate delicious little “LiLT” cupcakes made by Box Brownies , Yianni run us through each look, giving us ideas on styling, mixing and matching and set us off on our merry way to play dress ups in the spacious changing rooms.

We had a ton of laughs, there were some spot on hits, and some pretty hilarious misses, but what was really great about it was the opportunity to step outside the comfort zone and try on some pieces which I would not normally go for (like the lacy skirt which I’m dying to wear).

There is absolutely no pressure to buy, and they also offer the service for the dudes (served with beer, brownies and x-box). So if you’re looking for a bit of a change in your shopping experience, a different take on “your style”, or some help build your wardrobe, definitely give the Topshop team a go. xo Luci
