Blogger Profile – Cat Sanz

Cat Sanz is a fashion and lifestyle blogger, originally from Melbourne and now based in the sunny Gold Coast.

The gorgeous mum of 3 is known for her engaging fashion videos on Instagram and sharing bits and pieces of her everyday life on her account @catsanz.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Cat at a fashion event a few years ago and was instantly drawn to her friendly personality and gorgeous sense of style.

There’s not much that doesn’t look amazing on her, but it’s her honestly and real conversations on Instagram that kept me coming back for more. From family to motherhood, business and everything in between, Cat is refreshingly candid and personable. With plenty of fashion sprinkled on top for ultimate inspiration.

Today I chat to Cat about what led her to becoming a blogger, who she loves to follow and what’s to come … Read on Below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to become a content creator / blogger (or what’s the title to best describe your job)

Would you believe I started blogging as GFMum (gluten free mum)? I was pregnant and struggled to find food and places to eat whilst pregnant and gluten free, so my original topics were around recipes and cafes and restaurant reviews in Melbourne.

I took some time out whilst we were building our real estate business and baby L (my second bub arrived). With 19 months between the girls and working 6 days I was wiped out. When I returned to the gram and blogging I decided it was just going to be a journal of my life, my love of dressing up each day and my daily hustle with kids and a business. As a passed fashion designer I have always loved creating outfits. This just took over and it became and outlet and a pure joy to show up daily in outfits I loved and naturally chat about life as a growing family and the highs and lows of juggling work and kids.

I love following you, because you are real, honest and share your daily life with family, fashion and all the highs and lows along the way. Can you tell us a little bit about how you balance it all?

Firstly thank you, I really do appreciate hearing that and I love the connection I get from the online community I have built. I don’t feel like there is anything such as balance in a working mum life. Rarely can I ever count a day where I’m killing it with content and client projects and also serving up a meal at the appropriate meal time and have freshly washed uniforms prepared for the next day. The sooner we realise the balance isn’t achievable on our own the better. I have over time increased home support for us, we have a nanny for after school support and appointments, a cleaner and also call upon a babysitter when we need a night out. We don’t have any support family in Melbourne (we have just moved to qld) so we outsource our help.

What’s involved in a typical day of blogging for you?

There is no typical day but I try to plan projects and content at the start of the week and execute shoots at the end of the week. Some projects can be 2 months in the making. I also consult with clients on building your brand using social media so I have client facing on zoom meetings earlier in the week to work on that.

Tell us about some of the people in the industry who inspire you and why?

Great question, I will say that over time this changes and it’s not always a fashion account or a mum account. My current faves are mainly fashion as I feel like I have needed the creative escape during Covid times, these include:

@leoniehanne
@__mmazinewylde
@greceghanem
@celestebarber
@tamepunk

What are 3 of your favourite resources that you turn to for inspiration?

Instagram, Pinterest & Reels.

What is your favourite part of blogging?

Connection, I have felt so supported and found some incredible souls online. I have miscarried, lost family members and worked through health and mothering woes and all of this has been supported by amazing souls.  I have also found my inspiration and fallen back into working in fashion again which I am so grateful for.

How would you describe your personal style?

I am traditional with a slice of eclectic. I can be so traditional some days and I love feeling comforable in a wardrobe that serves me year after year. Yet, when my personality is feeling creative I put together fun outfits that wouldn’t be part of your regular wardrobe and I love those days. My motto ever since my late teens has been; Wear your personality through style.

What are your top 5 wardrobe essentials?

Jeans – I absolutely cannot live without a good light and dark pair of jeans.

Black blazer

White shirt

Black heels

Layered jewellery

What is the best style advice you have ever received?

Not to be guided by trends… whilst I love a trend, pieces that suit you & colours you love will always look great on you.

Where is the best place to shop in Melbourne?

I love shopping in Chapel Street, the Windsor end. Unfortunately due to covid that’s been difficult so online is where it’s at of late.

What would be your ultimate collaboration?

This has changed over time, I feel like right now for Australian brands it would be Camilla & Marc.

What challenges/opportunities have you faced this past year and a half due to Covid-19? / How have you had to pivot/change? / Or how have you stayed inspired during this challenging year?

I feel fortunate that I have really created a new drive during covid. Our homelife like many has been very stressful, and I have used styling and putting a daily outfit together my daily joy. I have enjoyed creativity styling more colour of late and my reels have brought so much creative joy over the last few months.

What’s next for Cat Sanz?

We have recently relocated to the Gold Coast, I need to sink my teeth in here, I know I am in a surfer/coastal town but I am determined to keep my style in line with all I love. I have so many great brand collabs coming up that I’m excited about. You will just have to watch and wait till they go live!
