Spring Poppies

Today’s outfit is inspired by one of my favourite spring flowers (the poppy) and my current colour obsession – anything peach/orange/flame/red…

As a designer and colour forecaster I tend to get pretty obsessed with colours and currently I’m crushing hard on bright warm tones that bring an extra bit of joy to my everyday fashion.

I’m also really enjoying playing with colour more harmoniously in my outfits (using tonal colours together or colours that sit next to each other on the colour wheel). Perhaps a little technical, but the past few weeks I’ve been travelling around Australia as part of a trend forecasting tour and have become totally obsessed with all things colour.

Today’s harmonious coloured outfit is a combination of some of my favourite local labels. Starting with the most comfortable and versatile Trumpet Sleeve Top by Leonard St. The crew neck and loose fit means I can wear this tucked into skirts (like today) or wear it much more casually with some jeans and sneakers. Not to mention the vermillion colour is insanely beautiful too. So bright and fun.

I’ve teamed it up with this beautiful 100% linen Catherine Skirt by Devoi. I’m a sucker for linen in the warmer months and I also love all the special details in this skirt. The paper bag waistband, front zip detail and POCKETS!!! I love a skirt with pockets! But what I love the most is the abstract floral pattern.

Hot tip: if you’re a beginner in wearing patterns, definitely give skirts a go! It allows you to play with pattern design in your outfits without it becoming overwhelming as the pattern isn’t scattered all over the outfit (like in a dress). Just pick out a colour from the print on the skirt and use that as the inspiration for your top’s colour choice! This makes it super versatile too!

The finishing touch today is my new favourite pair of shoes by my good friend and designer Lauren Marinis. Lauren was one of my first ever designer profiles on the blog, and for years I’ve been obsessed with her shoes. There seriously hot! You must check her new collection out. But these babies in particular have my heart beating rather fast! I do like a shoe that balances fashion and comfort just so.

Lastly I’d like to give a shout out and say a huge thanks to my blogging buddy Lena from Sunkissed Sundays for taking these gorgeous photos. She just captured this outfit and all its warm colours perfectly.

Have a happy week ahead, and I hope this outfit inspires you to have a little more fun with colour and pattern! Xo Luci
