If you want to be in the know about all things beauty, tech, food and lifestyle then you absolutely must follow The Daily Mark.

Started only just last year by designer & web developer Madeleine Burke, The Daily Mark is growing at an impressive rate, which is no surprise to me really as it is my personal go to website for finding out about all the cool new tech and beauty finds that are being released in the market.

I always look forward to reading the Pricey vs Priceline and App of the Week series, and the Food Fix Friday posts always have me wanting to cook up delicious recipes (or wanting to urgently fly up to Sydney to try the hot new restaurants on review.)

Madeleine has done an amazing job at creating this incredible online recourse, and I have massive amounts of respect for her as a fellow Australian blogger.  So I think it goes without saying that I am super excited to have her on the blog today to chat about how The Daily Mark came about and what inspires her.

See my interview with the always lovely Madeleine below.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to start The Daily Mark

I’m a designer and web developer that loves a good lipstick and having a chat over a glass of vino. The Daily Mark was a dream of mine for quite a while and then early last year I decided it was finally time. It’s my little spot on the internet to share the products and places I love and a fantastic way of meeting new people!

What’s involved in a typical day of blogging for you?

I’m really fortunate in that I’m self-employed so my days are a little more flexible than most. Most morning’s it’s an hour to myself as I walk around the neighbourhood and then a quick social media and email check-in before heading to the office for a full day of web development with my fiancé, Eivind. A few days a week there’ll be a great product launch or event thrown into the mix to keep me busy and the content options for TdM full to the brim. I try to do most of my post writing either in the evenings or weekends and schedule them so that there’s less pressure through the week.

How would you describe your personal style?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a set style but I do have a love for some random things. My silver boots are slowly dying as they’re such a wardrobe staple as well as countless pairs of coloured patterned pants. Other days you won’t see me in anything but black but if I had to choose one outfit to rock forever it’d be black wax jeans, a striped top and a bright orange lip.

What are your top 5 wardrobe essentials?

A great pair of boots. Especially with winter coming in! I’m a fan of ankle boots as I’m not a tall, skinny model (unfortunately).

A great pair of jeans. I purchased a pair of River Island ripped medium denim skinnies a few months back and I swear there hasn’t been a week that they haven’t had a few appearances!

That dress. You know the one that you put on and you’re instantly ready to walk out the door. Something that flatters you to a tee and is just easy! Movies, cocktails, event – you’re set!

A great white tee. The perfect fit white tee. A hard to find but so worth it staple of my wardrobe. Now just to stop wasting it by wearing it every night to bed.

A leather jacket. They last forever and are such a fantastic staple. I have a gorgeous brown leather jacket from Gorman and a black leather jacket from eBay that I’ve had forever (it was actually stolen from my car during uni and I miraculously got it back!). I do have my eye on one from Zara this winter though, so it might be finally retired!

How about your top 5 beauty essentials?

Dry Shampoo. I’m not a fan of washing my hair. Not in a dirty way, more in a I want to get the most out of this blow-dry kind of way.

Bright Lippie. A bright lipstick that screams your personality and makes any outfit look complete is a must-have for your handbag!

A Holy Grail Mascara. For me it’s the Chantacaille Faux Cils. Done, dusted, never need another mascara ever!

A luminizing tinted moisturiser. Even if you don’t have any time for a face of makeup pop a bit of luminising moisturiser on and you’ll look fresh as a daisy! I love the SunSense one that has SPF50 too!

Brow Pencil. Ditto the tinted moisturiser. If I have time for one things it’s my brow game! A great brow pencil can be a shove in your handbag saviour.

Tell us about some of the people who inspire you and why?

Oh I’m so inspired by everyone I meet in different ways. I mean I absolutely love Ita Buttrose and Mindy Kaling. Both are so super different I know but I just love that they are both strong, vocal women that know what they want and go for it. I love meeting new people and hearing about what makes them tick. Passionate people inspire me. I love people with drive and ambition.

Where is the best place to shop in Sydney?

I love the city. I don’t go in there all too often but there’s so much diversity from the bigger chains to smaller ‘hole in the wall’ boutiques that catch your eye. Every time I go in I tend to go for a wonder and I always come across some new shop with fantastic finds.

What are 3 of your favourite online resources which you look to for inspiration?

I love my Bloglovin feed, seeing what others are creating and loving. Instagram is another great one. Quick, current and all beautiful images. I’m addicted!

What is your favourite part of blogging?

I love the learning aspect. Hearing about new products, new technology, new places. There isn’t a day going by anymore where I don’t learn something different! Of course the social aspect is amazing too. I’ve met some fantastic friends through blogging that I really am so thankful to it for.

What is next for The Daily Mark?

After conducting a reader questionnaire for our 1 year anniversary in March we’re heading for a lot more of the same; more beauty, more style, more food and more tech! My partner and I are also taking our backgrounds in tech and our love for design and blogging into our new project, Blogger Boss which launched this month. Blogger Boss is an online course for bloggers that are struggling with the tech side of things. I cannot wait for it to share it with everyone!
